| 09/10/26 | This week we have moved onto a new series of books called One Day on Our Blue Planet. This week we have read In The Rainforest and looked at describing the rainforest using expanded noun phrases. In Maths, we have moved onto an addition and subtraction unit and have been practising our number bonds within 20. We have completed lots of other activities this week around Feeling Good Week, Harvest Festival and Hello Yellow Day. |

This week we have been writing a recount of the Snail and the Whale, using our oracy skills to say it aloud and our writing skills to write it into our books. In Maths, we have been problem solving with our skills in place value such as guessing the missing number. In Geography, we have been exploring the continent of Europe and looking at monuments from different countries. This week we have been using our oracy skills to retell the story of the Snail and the Whale. We have created story maps with images and key words which we have been learning to repeat together. In Maths, we have been learning how to write numbers up to 100 in words. In PE, we are enjoying learning Snail and the Whale dances and developing our Hockey skills to play a game. In Science, we have been looking at what something needs to be alive and have been on a Science walk around the school to see which things are alive, dead or never alive. This week we have continued with our Snail and the Whale learning and have been writing about what the snail would see, hear and feel from his rock. In Maths, we have been representing numbers in different ways and understanding the values of two digit numbers. This week we have settled nicely into Year 2, learning more about the Snail and the Whale and practising how to write sentences that make sense. We had the amazing opportunity to extend our understanding of the book with a live stream from the British Library where Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler spoke through how they create the books, performed the Gruffalo and read Gruffalo’s Granny, their new book. We even had a drawing lesson from Axel himself. In PE, we started our hockey lessons which are being delivered by an outside coach and where we all learnt how to correctly hold a stick and start to dribble a ball.
