This week in year 2, we have continued learning about Florence Nightingale. We had an amazing workshop where we practised tying bandages and telling stories through role play. In Art, we used the primary colours to make a colour wash and we also experimented with other colours by mixing them together to make a unique colour wash. In Maths, we have been using metre sticks and rulers to measure objects and familiarise ourselves with using units such as metre and centimetre. In Literacy, we have been comparing life in the hospital during and after the Crimean war. We have been exploring the impact Florence Nightingale has made to the hospitals. Spellings: sprayed, shaking, applied, agreeing and hurried. |

After a wonderful Christmas break, Year 2 have returned back to school prepared for their learning. This week in Maths, we have been exploring metres and centimetres. We have been using metre sticks and rulers to measure objects around the classroom and compare the lengths of objects in centimetres. In Literacy and History we have been introduced to Florence Nightingale. We have been exploring who she was and the changes she had made for the hospitals. In Computing we have been using stop motion to change the movement of objects. We used a range of objects to create our video. This week in Year 2, we have been practicing our spellings from the spellings that were sent home. In DT, we have continued to make our penguin puppets. We have been stitching and evaluating our work. In Geography, we have been comparing the Arctic and Antarctica by exploring the similarities and differences. In our RAWV lesson, we have been exploring different ways Christians ‘give’ to Jesus and what they ‘give’ during worship. Spellings: words with the sounds c, k and ck |

This week in Year 2, we have been focusing on our phonics sounds in preparation for our spelling tests. In Maths, we have been working on mixed addition and subtraction problems, as well as how to solve word problems. We also performed our nativity play this week, which we have been practising hard for with the Year 1s. Finally, in PSHE, we have been learning about the importance of friendship and discussing tips on how to approach bullying. Spellings: fizz, summer, floater, shiver, fixer |

This week in Year 2, we have continued our learning about addition and subtraction by exchanging numbers. We have been reading texts about penguins and practised using our prediction skills during comprehension. We have also continued to rehearse for our performance for the nativity. This week in Year 2, we have been learning about the life cycle of a penguin. We created our own zig zag booklet to show the life stages of a penguin. In maths, we have been using a range of manipulatives to add and subtract 10s. In PE, we have been developing our cricket skills by practising our throwing skills. This week in year 2, we have been working on addition and subtraction. We have been using ten frames in our learning to add and subtract 1 digit and 2 digit numbers. In literacy, we wrote the story about ‘Leaf’ (the polar bear) in a sequence. In PE, we are learning to play cricket, we have been practising our ball catching skills and batting skills. This week in Year 2, we have been learning how to add and subtract one-digit numbers. We also learned how to add three one-digit numbers.In Literacy, we have been reading a book called Leaf. We have been planning letters from the crows’ perspective, writing to the other animals about how they have been treating Leaf, the polar bear.As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we have explored the meaning and importance of kindness. In year 2 this week we have stopped in our last destination on the continent of Australasia in Literacy travelling with the bottlenose dolphin who is travelling around the ocean exploring what other animals they can see. In Art we have finished our final piece exploring and printing leaves into clay with the inspiration of our Artist Richard Shilling. This week in year 2 we have been travelling around the continents to Africa where our Literacy text follows a young lion cub searching the savannah. We have been focusing on a shape poem and using our adjectives to describe our lion cub. In Maths we have been looking at our number tracks and number lines working on 10s and 1s to 100 using a variety of different methods. In our computing lessons we have been looking at coding and understanding algorithms by using the program scratch to make our sprite move in different directions. This week in year 2 we have continued our journey around the continents and have been learning about Antarctica , while reading our book One Day on our Blue Planet in Antarctica we have created our very own polar bear and penguin factfiles. In P.E we have been finishing our dance to our song ‘I just can' t wait to be King’ learning a variety of different steps. This week in Year 2, we have been reading an exciting text about a spider monkey travelling across the rainforest. We have been focusing on writing nouns and verbs in our work. In Science, we have been expanding our enquiry knowledge and looking at different habitats. This week in Year 2, we have been busy looking at the continents of the world with Around the World day taking place on Wednesday. They do a range of activities from climbing Mount Everest to dancing in Mexico. The children learnt about different cultures, flags and food. In Literacy, they have prepared a presentation on their Around the World experience to their peers. This week in Year 2 we are writing our own version of the Snail and the Whale focusing on our sentence structure, capital letters and full stops.
