Week ending What we have been learning about...

Within our Literacy lessons this week, we have been learning all about Autumn and season changes. We have explored some common misconceptions surrounding the different signs of each season approaching and have used our oracy skills to explore what our favourite seasons are and why. Additionally, in Drawing Club we have been drawing pumpkins, autumn leaves, hedgehogs and more and have been writing CVC words to make them come alive! For maths, we have been furthering our understanding of subsisting and counting misconceptions.

This week in Year R we have been reading the book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ The children loved going on a bear hunt around their school and making food for the bear in our forest school. From this, the children created maps of their adventures. In maths, we looked at number 5. The children began to recognise the different parts that make up a whole. On our creative table, the children have been creating puppets to help them retell the story of the week.

It has been an exciting week for us in Reception as we welcomed our parents for our Stay and Learn sessions. We had so much fun showing our grown ups what we do when we are at school and got to practise our letter formations with them. Within Maths, we were exploring language to describe ‘more than’ and ‘less than’. We used cubes to help represent numbers when building towers to support our learning. Our Literacy lessons this week consisted of The Colour Monster, where we furthered our understanding of how we can use different colours to describe our emotions.

This week in Reception, we have been reading the book “Dear Dinosaur” and we received our own letter from a dinosaur. We had a lot of fun thinking about what we would like to say to a dinosaur and writing our own letters back. In our maths lessons, we have been exploring subitising and looking at different ways an amount of objects can be arranged yet still have the same quantity. We have also been on a number hunt in our classrooms! On Wednesday, we watched an amazing performance of The Ugly Duckling.

In Reception, we have been reading the story 'The Worrysaurs'. The children have enjoyed creating their own happiness bag and thinking of all their favorite things to go inside.

From this we have also learnt about our Zones of Regulation. The children have made their own tool kits of what will help them stay in their green zone. In maths, we have been looking at numbers 1-5 with our numberblocks.

This week in Reception, we have begun learning all about dinosaurs! We have been researching some dinosaur facts and have been thinking of different adjectives we can use to describe their features during our literacy lessons. Through the book ‘Harry and his Dinosaurs go to School’, we have been looking at what makes a good friend as well as different ways we can be kind to one another. Within our maths lessons, we have been exploring subitising and looking at different ways an amount of objects can be arranged, yet still have the same quantity.
