This week in Year 1, we have continued reading our text Traction Man. We used our oracy skills to discuss what type of superhero he is and used our literacy skills to include vocabulary from the book in our own writing. In Maths, we used resources to work out what increasing and decreasing means and created our own increasing number patterns using numicon! In DT, we spent time designing our cup and ball toy, ready to make next week and in Science this week, we went on a material hunt in our classrooms to find transparent objects! Phonics: e-e, ew, aw, ie Tricky words: house, mouse, water, want |

This week Year 1 have been working on our letter formation in Literacy as we made predictions about our new text ‘Traction Man.’ We used our sentence structure to write about his superhero costume and what superpowers he might have! In Maths, we took our counting on from 10 skills from last week and extended them by finding one more and one less in numbers up to 50. We used number lines to help us compare and order numbers to 20. In Music, we have continued to rehearse our Nativity songs with Year 2, ready for our performances in December. Phonics: a-e, i-e, o-e, u-e Tricky words: could, would, should, our |

This week in Year 1 we have been very busy! In Literacy this week we have continued to look at our text ‘Lost in the Toy Museum’ and we have used a variety of adjectives to describe the way that different toys look. In Maths, we have begun to make groups of ten and count on to find the total number. We have used tens frames to support us in organising objects to make counting them easier! In Computing, we have used iPads to practise our typing skills and have learnt what all the keys on a keyboard are for. In PE, we have started to learn our dance routine based around toys and in RaWV we have begun to think about what The Nativity means and how different communities of people celebrate Christmas. Phonics: o (oa), i (igh), e (ee), a (ai) Tricky words: your, people, their, oh, Mr, Mrs.T |

This week in Year 1 we have started our new topic ‘Toys Through Time.’ We looked at our new text, ‘Lost in the Toy Museum’ and met the characters who play hide and seek. We used our prediction skills to discuss where Bunting might sail to, to find the old lost toys; some of us predicted he would sail to a treasure island, whilst some of us thought he might discover an old castle! In Maths this week, we continued to look at shapes and positional language to give instructions to our friends. On Wednesday, Chertsey Museum visited us and brought lots of old toys for us to explore! We enjoyed finding out how they were made and how they work. Phonics: ir, ie, ue, u Tricky Words: their, people, oh, your. |

In Year 1 this week, we have spent time looking at Betty Campbell in Literacy. We discussed the importance of Black History Month and discussed why she was such an influential figure in education. In Maths, we continued our learning about shapes and began to look at the properties of 2D shapes. We used our key vocabulary to describe how many edges and corners each shape has when sorting them into categories. In Science we enjoyed our forest school session with Mrs McEvoy where we used clay, soil and seeds to make flower balls. We can’t wait to plant them outside! We hope you have a wonderful half term. Phonics: oy, ea, ou, ay Tricky Words: all, are, I, o |

This week in Year 1 we started to look at our new text ‘The Gigantic Turnip’. We worked together to retell the story using our oracy skills and then used our Literacy skills to rewrite the story using First, Next, Then and Finally. In Maths, we started our new topic Shape. We explored a variety of 2D and 3D shapes, describing and sorting them into different groups. In Art we held our own class exhibitions and evaluated our clay self portraits. We gave each other feedback based on what we liked and came up with ideas on how we could improve further. In RaWV, we looked at the Harvest Festival and discovered where the food we eat comes from. We hope you enjoyed seeing all of our learning on the Year 1 Facebook Takeover this week! Phonics: oy, ou, ea Tricky Words: said, says, all, are |

This week in Year 1 we have been super busy! We used our Ugly Duckling Performance from last week to retell the story in our Literacy writing. We used ‘and’ to join two sentences together and used our oracy skills to discuss how the characters felt in the story. Additionally, we have been practising our common exception words and making sure we can recognise them! In Maths, we have used number lines to count back in ones, to work out a subtraction equation. In PE, we used the equipment in the gym to develop our balancing skills! Phonics: oy, ea, ou Tricky Words: all, are, I. |

This week in Year 1, we have been working really hard in Maths as we learnt what the word commutative means. We worked out different maths equations using part whole models and number lines and realised if we switch our parts around, the answer stays the same! In Literacy, we have been writing short, simple sentences based on the lifecycle of a frog from our text ‘Slow Down’ and enjoyed our super exciting performance of The Ugly Duckling on Wednesday! In Music, we have continued to use the fairytale of The Three Little Pigs to clap different sound patterns that we hear in the story. Phonics: ay, oy, ou, ea Tricky words: said, says, you, do, like, little |

This week, Year 1 have been busy looking at what happens to the trees around us in the Autumn and Winter. Can you ask us what the difference between a deciduous tree and an evergreen tree is? In Literacy, we structured our sentences using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces whilst we wrote about the Autumn leaves on the trees turning orange. In Maths, we have used part whole models and different resources to help us add two numbers together. In Art, we are learning all about Kathy Pallie and the sculptures she creates. We rolled, carved, cut and moulded playdough into different shapes before we use clay next week! Phonics: th, sh, ch, qu Tricky words: was, they, come some, sure |

Year 1 have had so much fun this week! In Literacy, we have started to look at our new text, Slow Down. We met our character Squirrel, as she hunted for acorns and buried them in Autumn ready to dig them up again in Winter. We discussed what we would bury if we were a Squirrel! In Maths, we are continuing to look at numbers to 10 but using resources to work out one more and one less than a given number. In Science, we planted our sweet pea seeds and are excited to look after them and watch them grow over the next few weeks! Phonics: ch, sh, ai, oa Tricky words: what, when, he, she |
