    Geography

The purpose of Geography is to develop the children’s understanding of the natural environment and that created by human beings, and the relationship between the two. Geography allows the pupil to appreciate the assortment of features which make up the physical environment and it shows them how human beings have used the environment with both positive and negative consequences. It has an important role to play in the children's social and ethical development, as they learn about the world in which they live and the wider whole.

National Curriculum Geography at both Key Stages delivers opportunities to discover and appreciate their own locality and to extend their understanding to the wider world. As well as developing greater contextual knowledge of the world and there is focus on using and applying geographical skills at a competent level. Geography enables learners to probe and to put forward potential solutions to certain human needs and world-wide problems.

Last year The Echelford Primary School achieved the Foundation International School Award in recognition of the depth and breadth of the geography provision at the school. This year we will be working towards gaining the Intermediate Award by further developing our international work and deepening the impact this has on the school curriculum.
