This week Year 3 have settled back into their routines and have carried on learning about addition and subtraction in Maths, using the column addition method with and without regrouping. In Literacy, they have been excited to learn about our new book - Stone Age Boy. They have been writing blurbs for Stone Age Boy based on their predictions for the book. In PE, we have started gymnastics, dance and basketball where children have been practising their skills like balance, coordination and teamwork.

This week Year 3 have been designing their own allotments in Literacy, and writing speeches for their presentations. They have been using their physical oracy skills to make sure when they present their allotment ideas they have loud, clear voices and are facing their audience. We have been finishing our book ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’, which has been a fabulous read this term! In our last P.E. lesson this term, the children got the chance to finally perform their amazing dances and showcase their talents using rhythm, pace, motifs, leaps and mirroring. We have also been doing Pause Day activities to acknowledge Diwali, such as making lanterns. Spellings: CEW words |

This week in Year 3, we were given an exciting and important task: to create our very own fairytales for the Year 1 children to enjoy in their book corner. We began by planning our stories using story arcs, drawing pictures to illustrate the beginning, middle and end — making sure to include a clear problem and solution. After planning, we wrote our stories neatly on lined paper, ready to be collected into a special folder for the Year 1 readers. It was a lovely opportunity to write with a real purpose, exploring a new genre and considering a different audience. In Maths, we have moved on to addition and subtraction. We've been developing our mental strategies and using our knowledge of number bonds to confidently add and subtract 2 and 3-digit numbers. In DT, we have been looking at the seasonality of food, and making a chart to show which foods will grow the best in each season. This will help us with our final piece later in the term. Spellings: calendar, caught, centre, century, certain, circle, complete, consider, continue, decide, describe, different |

This week Year 3 have been recruited to write a set of instructions for babysitting a dragon! They have been using headings and subheadings to make sure their instructions are clear and accurate. In Maths, we have started statistics, where we have been reading, interpreting and drawing pictograms and bar charts. In French, Year 3 have been enjoying learning greetings such as ‘bonjour’ and ‘au revoir’, and they have been having conversations asking their partner how they are and what their name is. In Music, we have been learning how to write stick notations and clap rhythms to the beat. Spellings: Writing Year 3 / 4 CEW using the look, cover, write method. |

This week in Year 3, we have been writing diary entries from the perspective of one of the characters from our book ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’. We have focused on using time adverbials to make our diary entry tell our story in order. In Maths, we have been learning how to round numbers to the nearest ten and hundred, using our knowledge of place value. In P.E., we have been continuing with netball, jumping and dance, creating our own dance moves to tell the story of ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’. Spellings: words ending in ‘ture’ and ‘sure’. |

This week Year 3 have been designing their own gardens in Literacy. They drew their dream gardens and wrote interesting descriptions about them using expanded noun phrases. Some examples included a garden as long as a beach, and two spiky coconut trees. They have also been continuing their number sense learning in Maths where they have been learning to find what each digit in a number represents, and order and compare them based on their values. In French, they have been continuing their new learning of greetings and practising saying them out loud to their teacher and peers. |

This week Year 3 have been practising partitioning numbers and writing numbers to 1000 in Maths. They have also been working in groups using Cuisenaire rods to find number bonds to 10 and 20. In Literacy, they have been writing balanced arguments as to whether they would grow a dragon or not. This has been interesting to see how many of them would want to grow a dragon, and their reasons for it (making them breakfast in bed). We have been learning about healthy eating in Science, using the iPads to research different nutrients and how much of them we need in our diet. Spellings: Words with the sound ‘ou’ that sound like ‘ow’ and ‘u’. |
