Year 3 learning this week

Below you will find our weekly teaching and learning summary to find out how we develop and enrich your child's learning whilst they are with us.

Week ending What we have been learning about
26/09/25

This week Year 3 have been designing their own gardens in Literacy. They drew their dream gardens and wrote interesting descriptions about them using expanded noun phrases. Some examples included a garden as long as a beach, and two spiky coconut trees. They have also been continuing their number sense learning in Maths where they have been learning to find what each digit in a number represents, and order and compare them based on their values. In French, they have been continuing their new learning of greetings and practising saying them out loud to their teacher and peers.

19/09/25

This week Year 3 have been practising partitioning numbers and writing numbers to 1000 in Maths. They have also been working in groups using Cuisenaire rods to find number bonds to 10 and 20. In Literacy, they have been writing balanced arguments as to whether they would grow a dragon or not. This has been interesting to see how many of them would want to grow a dragon, and their reasons for it (making them breakfast in bed). We have been learning about healthy eating in Science, using the iPads to research different nutrients and how much of them we need in our diet.

This week we have enjoyed learning the routines of year 3 for our first full week! We had our very first french lesson which we loved and learnt how to say hello and goodbye. We have started lots of our new topics such as Healthy Eating in Science and Urban vs Rural farming in Geography. In Literacy, we have started our new book - The boy who grew dragons and wrote a description of the infamous Bongleweed Plant. In Maths, we have looked at strategies for solving simple mental addition.
